Martin Luther King

In 1960, the population in Birmingham was of 350 000 people, where the white population was more than the black population. These were a life quite bad in comparison with the white people. A local responsible for civil rights, the pastor Shuttlesworth, attempt fight through the justice, but the city reacted badly, so he requested the help of Martin Luther King.

However, King was arrested and jailed in April 13. From his cell, he composed the now-famous "Letter from Birmingham Jail" which responds to calls on the movement to pursue legal channels for social change. In such circumstances, received the direct support of President John F. Kennedy, and his wife, and being released after days, but in May 2, many students of all ages were prepared and trained to engage in peaceful demonstrations but ended up being violently arrested by the police, and the decision to use children even in a non-violent demonstration was highly criticized.

That same year, in August 28, King says in front of the memorial to Abraham Lincoln, in Washington, DC, during a historic demonstration of over 200,000 in favor of civil rights for blacks in US, his speech and the poem “I Have A Dream”, which speaks of freedom and the ideals that he had, his way of thinking, giving us hope for black people and to every man who listened him.

Alike, Kennedy, who had already publicly supported for Martin Luther King, had initially opposed to the objective of the running because he felt that could have a negative impact on the vote of the law on civil rights, and that is accepted, under the pressure and influence presidential, present a message less radical.
